Hi, I'm Dave. I have a lot of ideas and I think they're kind of fun so I write them down.

Some turn into books, some into plays, sometimes they become a kind of narrative journalism. Sometimes I just wander off and look at things for a while like highway overpasses or cracks in the sidewalk.

This web page brings together everything I do into a kind of cookie jar filled with ideas. I like cinnamon on my ideas. This way people can come to my cookie jar filled with cinnamony ideas and see if they like anything. And they can buy one of my books, which they should.

My Life

After graduating high school I spent three years wandering the United States in a variety of vehicles including an antique delivery truck, a beat up limousine, and an old Volkswagen van.

I made several trips to the Amazon rainforest to work on an Ethnobotanical plant collecting team studying the natural medicines used by the Huaorani tribe of east Ecuador. I was in charge of supplies and equipment for the expedition, as well as photography and video work. I was the cartographer and did all the maintenance stuff, like creating a system to store clean rainwater from the roof. I also lead teams of Huaorani on plant collecting runs. The plant specimens gathered during that work are housed in the New York Botanical Garden.

For ten years I’ve been a pretty regular resident of New York City. All of my college education has been in New York, and Sundiver Press was started here as well. I've been in New York long enough for it to feel like home. Though I didn’t move here on purpose I've begun to appreciate it in many ways. New York gives you the chance to fall in love with a moment. And what is there in life but love?
